Brent Schools’ FA’s girls teams took part in a tournament ahead of London Bees’ Continental Tyres Cup game at home to Watford, which the Bees won after a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Brent were in a group with older teams and despite this put in strong performances against Watford and Boreham Wood with goals from Maria Carnavale and sister Guissepina.  Esther Huber, Matilda Easterby and Scout Waddington played well in midfield, passing through the lines.

Brent saved the best to last with a victory over Goldbeaters to clinch third place.  Maya Rosneberg opened the scoring, blasting the ball in off the far post to cap a good team goal.  Sophie Kew started the move by bursting though midfield then passing to Apollonia Margetson who slipped the ball to Natalia Camara for the skilful Camara to jink past two defenders and set up Rosenberg to score.

Goldbeaters fought bravely to get an equaliser but with Shaina Swaby making an impressive debut alongside Keely Dibley-Dias in defense they were kept at bay. On the one occasion Goldbeaters did get a shot on goal Natalya Barat- Marie made a superb reflex save to maintain the lead and clinch the bronze medals.

The U10s also played well in their first outing of the season. Georgie Stone, Apollonia Margetson and Natalia Camara were all outstanding. The borough girls more than held their own in a group with Watford and Boreham Wood who were the eventual winners. Eabha Kennedy, who at age 8 is the youngest-ever player to represent Brent, showed great skill in midfield.

In recognition of their efforts the Brent girls squad were invited to meet the Bees players in the tunnel before the game and accompany them onto the pitch for the pre-match handshake and complete an unforgettable day for the young Brent players. Brent coach Chris Ampofo commented: “I am so proud of the girls. They showed great spirit and played some good football. It was lovely to see them on the pitch with the First Team girls. I’d like to say a big thank you to the London Bees for giving them that experience.”
