Brent’s Under-13 girls’ squad came out on top in their top of the table clash against Regents Park.
In an excellent advert for girls football, Brent eventually ran out 4-0 winners in a hard-fought game at Regents Park.
Brent’s leading scorer Scout Waddington gave Brent the lead, collecting a pass from debutante Maddie Muir, then sprinting past the defence and firing past the goalkeeper .
The second goal – arguably the ‘goal of the game’ – came from an out-swinging corner from Chloe O’Donoghue which Brianna John-Etiko volleyed into the top corner.
Regents Park rallied and went on the counter-attack, but good work from Sophie Kew and Keely Dibley-Dias broke up the attack and started the move which led to the third goal.
The ball was worked to Maya Rosenberg on the wing, whose inch perfect pass found John-Etiko who calmly drove the ball beyond the ‘keeper.
Brent’s passing game was making it hard for their opponents to gain possession but was helping them to build attacks. One excellent chance came when Lizzy Ulusele fed the ball to Laiba Mir for a neat interchange with Apolonia Margetson, who released Muir on the left wing. Muir’s pace took her past the defence, but the ‘keeper saved to deny her what would have been a well-deserved goal. Muir caused Regents Park all sorts of problems with darting runs down the left flank, but the final goal came when keeper Milly-May Blue’s quick thinking and throw out released Dibley-Dias who found Waddington in midfield. Her pass found Brianna John-Etiko on the edge of the box and she completed her hat-trick with a thunderous shot which ricochet into the goal off the far post.
Brent coach Kjell Sung said afterwards: "The team started quickly and their passing and movement was excellent. Congratulations to both teams on a very competitive game".
