Brent Schools’ FA’s role as one of the drivers in the growth of girls’ football locally was recognised by UEFA during the recent Euro 2022 tournament, who invited some of the Association’s players to be player escorts for the Germany v Denmark match at the Brentford Community Stadium.
Brent, working in partnership with the Middlesex FA, hosted one of the first FA Wildcats centres to launch. Based at Capital City Academy it gives girls aged 6 to 11 the opportunity to take park in fun football sessions.
Since starting the Wildcats sessions, numbers have boomed and next season Brent will field seven girls’ teams from Under-9 to Under-16.
Having been invited to be part of the UEFA Women’s Euro Youth Programme Brent’s girls enjoyed a lively Q&A session with former Arsenal and German international Josephine Henning (pictured, bottom with Brent player Eva). They then joined the international teams on the pitch for the national anthems. The young players thoroughly enjoyed the inspiring experience and the match, which Germany won 4-0 on their way to the Final which was played in Brent at the iconic Wembley Stadium in front of a record-breaking crowd.
Brent Schools’ FA Chair Chris Ampofo said: “Massive thanks to the Middlesex FA and UEFA for giving local players such a fantastic opportunity. The next generation of Lionesses are attending schools now so it is fantastic for these young players across the country to feel part of this brilliant tournament”.
There are lots of opportunities for girls to join Brent teams so anyone wishing to play for Brent should contact Chris Ampofo by emailing chris@hpqgroup.com.
