Girls from the Brent Schools’ FA Representative Squads joined the England Women’s squad to celebrate both the team’s European Championship triumph and their wider impact in the community. The Lionesses inspired the nation, not only with their skills and determination on the pitch but also their drive to desire to ensure that all girls have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful game in schools.
In recognition of their tremendous efforts, the Lionesses received the Inspiration Award at the prestigious ITV Pride Of Britain awards. The event, held at the Grosvenor House hotel, was packed with sports royalty as well as celebrities from stage and screen including David Beckham and the Strictly Come Dancing stars.
Nicola Adams, Dame Laura Kenny and Kelly Holmes presented the award to the Lionesses with the words “There is a lot of Girl Power up here”. In recognition of the manager Sarina Wiegman and her team’s efforts to inspire girls, it was fitting that players from the Brent Girls Teams were asked to attend and present the Lioness with their medals.
The Brent Girls – billed as “The Little Lionesses” – wore the England kit and ran through the star studded audience as they cheered the girls on. The Brent Girls presented the medals then posed with the players after and even had photos with Strictly Dancers and pop star Olly Murs.
Based at Capital City Academy and supported by The Wembley Stadium Nation Trust, Brent Schools’ FA has been the forefront of championing and developing and football in Brent so it was apt to see the next generation included in this most prestigious event.
Brent Chair Chris Ampofo remarked: “We are all inspired by the Lionesses and it is wonderful to see children from Brent, the home of Wembley Stadium, invited to take part. It was a special night that they will remember forever. Big thanks to the Pride Of Britain team for making a dream come true for the girls to meet their heroes.”
