Brent U12’s superb unbeaten run in the league continued with a convincing 5-0 victory against a strong and physical LSS team at Regents Park on Saturday. In a great advert for girls football, Brent took the lead when Apolonia Margetson won the ball in midfield and threaded the ball to Scout Waddington who blasted the ball home. Margetson then extended the lead with a fierce long range shot into the bottom corner.
Brent’s third goal was the result of a fine move started by goalkeeper Millie-May Blue who released Sophie Kew, whose pinpoint pass released Giussepina Carnavale. Carnavale cut in from the left and shot. The LSS keeper made a good save but could only parry the ball and Waddington reacted first to score a poacher’s goal.
LSS rallied and pressed in an effort to get back into the game but Brent defended superbly with Kew and Dibley-Dias breaking up attacks and calmly passing through the press, putting their team on the attack. Brent’s fourth goal was another excellent passing move; Kew passed to Keely Dibley-Dias who found Chloe O’Donoghue who then slipped the ball to Carnavale who jinked past her marker to unleash a thunderbolt into the roof of the net, giving the ‘keeper no chance.
In a smart move, Dibley-Dias passed to Laiba Mir who released Maya Rosenberg to race down the wing, but her shot was well saved.
Chloe O’Donoghue completed the scoring, finishing a great team move started by Elizabeth Ulusele. O’Donoghue hit a spectacular shot which flew into the top left corner with such force that it rebounded back out off the stantion of the goal.
Brent coach Chris Ampofo: “The girls defended brilliantly today and played some great football. Some of the passing was fantastic. You can see that the girls are really enjoying their football and they are improving all the time. I thought that both teams were excellent.
Squad: Scout Waddington, Chloe O’Donoghue, Elizabeth Ulusele, Keely Dibley-Dias, Maya Rosenberg, Apolonia Margetson, Sophie Kew (capt), Milly-May Blue, Laiba Mir, Giussepina Carnavale
Brent next face third-placed Eagles United on February 9 at Regents Park.
