Brent U13 Girls 2-3 Tufnell Park Sports Club – Brent Schools’ Football Association

Brent U13 Girls 2-3 Tufnell Park Sports Club

Brent put on a superb team performance against top of the table Tufnell Park.

The Brent girls went on the attack straight from the kick off and a neat pass from Apollonia Margetson found Olivia Henry who sprinted past three defenders before launching a thunderbolt into the net.

Tufnell Park equalised quickly and then against the run of play took the lead and the half ended with Tufnell Park leading 2-1.

The second half was keenly fought and a moment of magic gave Brent their equaliser. Brooke Dyke picked up the ball to the left of the box, skilfully passed two defenders and then smashed the ball into the net.
Brent then took control of the match as they pressed for the all-important third goal. Dyke hit the post and then the crossbar as Brent laid siege on their opponents’ goal. At the other end, Brent defended bravely against strong Tufnell Park forward line, snuffing out counter-attacks. Henry saw two shots roll agonisingly past the post before Captain Margetson drove from midfield and her shot was saved.

It looked like the winner would come for Brent as Henry was causing chaos up front but Tufnell Park broke away and scored with a well taken counter-attack.

Brent coach Chris Ampofo remarked afterwards: “The whole team were outstanding today and showed that they can compete with anyone. They really enjoyed the game and rose to the challenge.””

Squad: Apollonia Margetson, Brooke Dyke, Evie Roe, Holly Palmer, Kate and Maia Fox, Scarlett Hunn, Meg Ingram, Olivia Henry, Olivia Macarthur Ugomma Ekendu-Obi, Georgie Stone, Pele Fakahau

Under-11 Girls win again

In another Regents Park Youth League match, Brent’s Under-11 girls showed great courage to comeback in a hotly contested game against Camden. Eabha Kennedy, Sophie Owen and Nancy Wales capped fine performances with a goal each to seal a 3-2 win. Ivy Cochrane-Hanley continued to impress in goal.
