Boosted by the return of Giusy Carnavale, Brent’s U14 Girls produced their best performance of the season so far to out pass and overpower a spirited Sporting Duet team at Capital City Academy.
The game was a superb advertisement for girls football. Olivia Henry opened the scoring for Brent finishing a superb passing move with an emphatic volley. The mercurial Brooke Dyke then produced a Maradona-style dribble past two defenders before blasting the ball into the net to score a goal even the great man himself would have been proud of.
Brent’s defense of Sophie Kew, Elizabeth Ulusele and Kirsten Dibley Dias produced an awesome display of defending and passing. Supported by Apollonia Margetson in midfield, the Brent back line ensured that the visitors did not have a shot on goal. Emily Danicka was also very impressive in goal. Chloe O’Donoghue appeared to have scored a ‘worldy’ to make the score 3-0. She hit a 25 yerd drive that cannoned off the top corner of the goal and bounced back to hit the goalie which appeared to cross the line but in the absence of VAR the goal was not given although everyone could only stand and applaud whilst admiring the tremendous shot.
After the match, Brent coach Chris Ampofo said, “That was a brilliant team performance. The entire squad contributed. I’m very proud of them. They showed that they have the confidence and ability to compete against anyone”
The win takes Brent to second in the Capital Girls’ League, one point behind Broomwood but with three games in hand. Brent face Broomwood at home at Capital City on 23 January. Before that, the squad Brent start 2021 with an away fixture against Regents Park on 9 January.
Brent squad: Apollonia Margetson, Brooke Dyke, Chloe O’Donoghue, Elizabeth Ulusele, Giusy Carnavale, Keely Dibley- Dias, Emily Danicka, Maya Rosenberg, Olivia Henry, Tirion Lewis, Ugomma Ekendu-Obi, Sophie Kew, Maddie Muir.
The result means that Brent’s Under-11, U12 and Under-14 girls’ teams are all unbeaten so far this season. A wonderful record they will look to build on in the New Year.
