U10 Girls make tournament debut

Brent's Under-10 Girls' team, 09/12/17

Brent Schools’ U10 girls team took part in their first ever tournament on Saturday, hosted by the Capital Girls’ League.

Brent were placed in Group A along with Alexandra Park Youth North and Barnet Nightingales, in which all teams had to play each other twice.

Brent’s first game was up against APY North which resulted in a 4-4 draw. The girls showed great teamwork with accurate passing through the lines and great finishing by Molly O’Connor (2) and Natalia Camara (2). Georgie Stone started in goal and she impressed after making some terrific one on one saves.

Brent’s next game came up against a very strong Barnet side. Although the girls lost the game 3-1, Brent were able to create chances through some great passing and movement off the ball. Molly O’Connor scored a great goal placing the ball beyond Barnet’s goalkeeper.

In our second game against APY North, Brent were again unfortunate not to come away with the win. There was some great link-up play from Kate and Maia Fox as well as some super saves from Georgie Stone in goal. APY North’s goalkeeper was on good form and Brent were unlucky to lose 2-0.

Our final game against Barnet was much improved. Now the girls had played a few games together, they looked much more comfortable in communicating with one another. Brent showed process with their defending off the ball with some great tackles from Maia Fox and Georgie Stone. Molly O’Connor scored another great goal with her left foot into the bottom corner after a great pass down the right from Kate Fox. However, again Barnet were too strong and they came out on top with a 2-1 win.

For their first tournament together, the girls played magnificently. Special mentions to Molly O’Connor, Natalia Camara and Georgie Stone who all played outstanding. Kate and Maia Fox are vastly improving in their football and they formed a great partnership in defence. Brent coaches James and Patricia were very impressed with the team performance over the four games and they are both looking forward to taking the girls into the next tournament.
