The Brent Under-12 Girls’ played superbly in the Capital Girls League Futsal competition held last weekend at the iconic Olympic venue, the Copper Box Arena.
The team finished second in their group but were edged out by Watford Ladies in a tight game, enabling Watford to progress to the semi-final.
Drawn in the tournament’s ”group of death”, Brent started off impressively with a dominant 4-0 win over Limehouse, Tyanna Tulloch and Noelani Agyeman both grabbing a brace.
The next match was a much tighter affair against Enfield Town Ladies Youth. Brent defended impressively again with Chloe Angell, Jasmine Warrington and Jessica Kwayie giving nothing away. The only chance of the game fell to Agyeman but her low effort was well saved and the game ended 0-0.
St Joseph’s Youth ‘88, who are top of the League’s 7v7 Division 1, were Brent’s next opponents. Tulloch scored a stunning goal, ghosting past the last defender before rifling home a low shot into the far corner. Jada Pollendine made it two by capping off a fine team move with a crisp first time curling shot. St Joseph’s got one back but Angell made two smart saves to help Brent see out a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
The final game saw Brent go down 2-0 to eventual tournament runners-up Watford taking the Hornets through to the semi-finals and edging Brent out of the medals..
Coaches Ronan O’Rourke and Joe Khalfi were very pleased with their team’s contribution to what was a very enjoyable occasion. O’ Rourke commented: “The way the girls competed you wouldn’t have thought it was their first experience of futsal.”
