U15 Girls claim fifth straight win – Brent Schools’ Football Association

U15 Girls claim fifth straight win

Brent U15 Girls 2-0 Regents Park

Brent’s U15 Lionesses secured a fifth consecutive win with a gutsy performance in this Capital Girls League Division 1 contest at Capital City Academy.

Brent are currently the division’s in-form side and it was easy to see why as they went on the attack straight from the kick off. Amira Rubinos was a constant threat on the left, but despite creating several chances Brent could not find the net.

Isabel Upstone was introduced to provide more firepower up front and had an instant impact, causing Regents Park all sorts of problems. The deadlock was broken when Amira Rubinos surged down the left wing and shot at goal. The ‘keeper could only parry it and Upstone showed a poacher’s instinct, reacting first in the box to strike the ball home.

Regents Park responded well and fought to mount a comeback but the Brent defence of Dibley-Dias, Muir, MacArthur and Kew showed why they are building a reputation as one of the strongest in the league. The home back four were equal to the challenge as Sara Khene looked very comfortable in goal.

Brent rung the changes at half time and introduced the speedy winger Gracious Olamona. Laiba Mir and captain Apollonia Margetson impressed in midfield as did Brooke Dyke, showing some good close control in tight situations. The all-important second goal came from a great team passing move. Sophie Kew at right back passed to Brianna John-Etiko deep in the Regents Park half. John-Etiko skilfully swivelled on the ball beating two defenders and released Olamona who sprinted through and blasted the ball past the goalkeeper. Brent continued to probe with Chloe O’Donoghue showing some good touches but the game ended without further scoring.

Brent coach Chris Ampofo said: “It was great to see Brent passing out from the back. The whole squad contributed and just edged it against a spirited Regents Park Team”.
