Brent Under-16 Girls 3-2 Camden
Brent Schools’ FA’s U16 Girls team picked up their first victory of the season, defeating Camden Girls in a Capital Girls League Cup tie played on the superb pitch at Capital City Academy. Brent began the game on the back foot with an early corner being scrambled in by Camden’s striker to give the visitors the lead. Brent’s keeper Alaa Chliyeh pulled off a string of good saves to keep the home team in the game.
Brent fought back, applying continued pressure until Apollonia Margetson played an inch perfect ball to Giusseppina Carnevale who hit the net with a superb strike. The first half ended level at 1-1.
Brent enjoyed a lot of possession in the opening 10 minutes of the second half and their passing game paid off with Carnevale showing wonderful technique to give Brent the lead with another superb shot.
Brent had to dig deep, preserving their lead with excellent defending by Sophie Kew, Liv MacArthur, Kate Fox and Maddie Muir who were all putting up fierce resistance at the back. Camden were committing players forward and Brent caught them on the counter attack when skipper Margetson collected the ball in her own half, dribbled through the midfield before unleashing a rocket shot from 25 yards into the top left corner to make it 3-1 (above).
Camden continued to fight and were rewarded with a goal reducing the deficit but the entire Brent team showed real spirit, defending as a unit to see the game out and claim their first win of the season. Brent coach Dylan White commented “I’m very proud of the girls. It was a brilliant team performance and a real show of determination especially late into the game”
