St Albans 3-3 Brent

Saturday 5th December 2015

Brent’s Under-11 squad dug deep to get a result and reach the semi-final of the Hertfordshire Schools’ FA Inter-District trophy event.

This game had everything, including controversy, great football, missed chances and excellent saves. Brent dominated the first 20 minutes of the game playing some excellent football, creating numerous chances and drawing some great saves from the home ‘keeper.

However, despite exerting so much pressure, Brent went 1-0 down after St Albans converted a penalty. Two minutes later this became 2-0, which was the half-time score.

The second half started with Brent still believing that they could still salvage a result and within 5 minutes the silky Joshua Johnson thumped home to make the score 2-1.

The Brent boys were up for the challenge but within 2 minutes fell victim to a sucker punch as St Albans made the score 3-1. James Cawley in the Brent goal made a series of saves which proved to be crucial. Joshua Johnson, who was having a superb game, put Daniel Adu-Adjei through on goal and his finish was emphatic.3-2.

Brent now had to push for the equaliser as this would advance them through to the Semi-Finals.

The home keeper pulled off a series of fantastic saves, one in particular from Daniel tipping his shot over the crossbar. Brent finally managed to get the equaliser from James Otaruoh (pictured) who prodded home a poacher’s goal from close range.

Brent coach Joe Pascoe commented “This was an excellent game of football, played in a great spirit with a lot of talent on show. The players worked very hard in training and got their reward today.  They have done the borough proud.”
