The team contained several Brent players, including “the Brent Messi” Albi Alexander.
Middlesex started well and were rewarded for creating pressure on the home side when the referee awarded a penalty after a clumsy tackle by the Inner London goalkeeper. Brent’s Diontae Smith stepped up and converted.
Middlesex would soon be 2-0 up when Smith scored his second. A Jibril Sharmarke through ball put Smith into a one-on-one with the Inner London ‘keeper, which he finished coolly.
Inner London improved in the second half, scoring two quick goals midway through the second half. However Middlesex wom the game late on when a Kuell Weekes free kick found the net.
Middlesex had chances to extend their lead but managed the game efficiently to finish as winners.
Middlesex and Brent coach Kamal Romain commented afterwards: “Through hard work, the team’s talent shone brightly in a great team display”.
This was one of three fixtures played at Walthamstow; Middlesex U16 boys won 3-2 against Inner London, while the Under-14 boys went down 5-2 in a game which was much closer than the score line suggests.
