Brent edge out Broomwood

Broomwood Panthers 1-2 Brent U15 Girls

Brent’s Under-15 girls secured their fourth consecutive victory in Division 1 on the  Capital Girls’ League as their superb run of form continued with a hard-fought victory away to Broomwood Panthers in Wandsworth.

On a bumpy pitch, it was difficult for Brent to get their passing game going but they adapted quickly to the conditions. Brent took the lead when a superb pass by Alisa Omeragic found Apollonia Margetson on the edge of the box. Margetson dribbled past her marker and coolly passed into the far corner to make put Brent 1-0 up.

Broomwood piled on the pressure and Brent responded well defensively before increasing their lead when left back Amira Rubinos made a slide rule pass splitting the defence. Gracious Olamona showed rapid pace, sprinting through the defence before smashing the ball past the goalkeeper.

The second half was a tense of affair as Broomwood sought to get back into the game. In form defender Sophie Kew put on a superb display at right back, supported by Keely Dibley-Dias and Liv MacArthur. Up front, Brent introduced Christie Morris-Zazzara and her intricate passing with May Rosenberg gave Brent the upper hand. Brent captain Chloe O’Donoghue was a constant threat down the right and after a slick pass by Laia Mir she blasted the ball inches over the bar.

Late in the game Broomwood pinned Brent back and scored after a goalmouth scramble. Sensing a comeback, Broomwood counter-attacked and a superb fingertip save  by ‘keeper Sara Khene tipped the ball past the post. The pressure continued and Khene saved Brent again with a reflex save, parrying the shot before then diving on to the line to make the save. The visitors saw out the game, meaning they have now won seven of their last eight matches in the Capital Girls’ League.

Brent then rallied and saw out the game. Brent coach Kirsten Dibley-Dias congratulated her team after the victory, observing “The girls showed real character and fighting spirit today. I’m very proud of them“.
