Having been founded in 1966, Brent Schools’ FA are celebrating their Golden Anniversary, by helping to kick-start what they hope will be a “golden age” of football for young girls from the borough.
This season’s Under-11 Girls’ have already claimed two trophies; the Surrey League and the Woking Festival Cup, while claiming three points from their final two London League matches will enable them to claim a memorable treble.
On Saturday, the team was presented with the Woking Festival Cup by England Women’s Team Head Coach Mark Sampson on the pitch at half time of The FA Women’s Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium. They were supported by a group of 300 from Brent Schools’ FA, which included players from the various teams, teachers, coaches, parents, volunteers and friends.
Chair of the Brent Schools’ FA Chris Ampofo said afterwards: “It was a ‘dream come true’ for the team, who are local girls attending local schools and are proud to be from Brent.
“The players hope to follow in the footsteps of local girl Rachel Yankey who has had a distinguished career for Arsenal and England. In the future, some of the players will hopefully play for FA WSL teams and maybe even in an FA Women’s Cup Final .
“I’d also like to express my heartfelt thanks to The FA and Wembley National Stadium Trust for facilitating this event and everyone behind the scenes supporting Brent Schools’ FA. I would encourage every school to get a group together and attend next year’s Final. It is a family friendly occasion and a brilliant day out.”
