Brent Girls start season in style

A superb passing display helped Brent Girls to an emphatic 7-1 victory over Regents Park in their first League match of the season.

Chloe O’Donoghue opened the scoring, collecting a pass from Giuseppina Carnevale before dribbling past a defender and rifling a fierce shot into the far corner of the net.  Carnevale then got on the scoresheet, driving down the left before cutting in to fire the ball home. Good play from Tirion Lewis set up Carnevale to make it 3-0 wth a cross shot.

Regents Park fought back bravely but Brent’s defensive pairing of Keely Dibley-Dias and Sophie Kew stood up to the challenge well and when Regents Park did break through just before half time  keeper Milly- May Blue made an excellent save, diving to turn the ball past the post.

After the break, Apolonia Margetson was introduced in midfield and was involved in the goal of the game, combining with Carnevale and Laiba Mir. Mir’s neat pass found O’Donoghue who smashed the ball past the keeper to make the score4-0.

Brent rang the changes, introducing some fresh legs. Elizabeth Ulusele in defense and Maya Rosenberg in midfield both came on and Rosenberg showed great technique when finishing a sweeping Brent move with a crisp first time shot into the net to make it five.

Simone Silva unleashed a snap shot which hit the bar before striker Scout Waddington capped a fine combative display with a well taken goal to make it 6-0. Regents Park then scored a consolation goal before Lewis completed the scoring, getting a well-deserved goal by reacting first in the box to fire home.

Brent coach Chris Ampofo observed “The girls passed the ball well and played some great football. They can take confidence from today as they showed that they can compete with anyone.”
