After a long lay off, the team were excited to be playing again. Having only had two training sessions prior to this game and with a few new players it was expected that Brent would take a little while to find their rhythm.
The first few minutes were frantic and end to end, with both teams trying to dominate and having chances on goal.
Strong defending by Brent denied Regents Park and on a counter attack Sophie Owen’s shot was parried into the path of Nancy Wales whose shot found the top right corner. Brent took their 1-0 lead into half time.
The second half started with Brent enjoying a spell of dominance. During this period, Wales hit the post twice and Owen had a shot saved at point blank by the Regents Park goalkeeper.
As Regents Park rallied, Marmion in the Brent goal was called upon twice to make critical saves and the defence of Swaby and Palmer managed to withstand the Regents Park attack. Summers and Kennedy in midfield controlled the centre and continued to launch attacks.
Regents Park fought until the end but Brent were the stronger side and closed out the game to keep the final score at 1-0. The new recruits to Brent’s team, Cottle, Scrutton and Pascoe-Ericsson had a baptism of fire but came through well and ably supported the team.
After six matches, Brent remain undefeated so far this season.
