Hearts of Teddlothian 2-5 Brent U15 Girls
The Brent Schools’ FA Under-15 Girls’ superb run of form continued with a fantastic team performance away to Hearts of Teddlothian.
Brent started attacking straight from the kick-off and their reward was a superb team goal. Kate Fox collected the ball in the left back position and slipped the ball inside to Liv MacArthur. MacArthur passed to Chloe O’Donoghue who spun on the ball and split the Hearts defence with an inch-perfect pass to Scout Waddington who did the rest, out sprinting the defence before smashing the ball into the net.
O’Donoghue then scored herself with a superb solo effort, cutting in from the left before launching an unstoppable 25 yard dipper into the top right hand corner to put Brent 2-0 up.
Hearts showed great spirit pulled a goal back following a fine move to make the scoreline 2-1.
Brent soon restored their two goal lead. O’Donoghue again showed superb technique, dribbling before passing to Waddington in the box and again Waddington obliged with a superb drive into the corner of the net.
In midfield, Apollonia Margetson and captain Laia Mir were starting to dominate the game, passing and moving to cause Hearts all sorts of problems. Gracious Olamona then raced down the right and cut the ball back. Brooke Dyke reacted first to volley the ball home and put Brent 4-1 ahead.
Dyke then got her second goal, dribbling through a crowded area before shooting home from 5 yards to make it 5-1.
After the break Kate Fox landed awkwardly on her wrist and had to be substituted. Brent rang the changes, bringing on Amira Rubinos who did a fine job at left back. Maya Rosenberg started to impact the game with some excellent passing on the right of midfield.
Hearts attacked and Sophie Kew intervened to stop a certain goal with an excellent goal line clearance. Keely Dibley-Dias continued to show why she is getting a reputation as one of the best defenders in the League, showing superb composure in both stopping several attacks and starting breaks by passing from the back.
The second half was a much more even affair as Hearts pressed to regain a foothold in the game. Brent goalkeeper Sara Khene made two fine saves; one when she somehow saved a close range shot but could not hold it, then reacted quickly diving behind her to save grab the ball on the line.
Hearts continued to press and got a well deserved second goal when a cross-shot ricocheted off MacArthur and landed in the net to make the score 5-2. Brent responded well to the increased pressure, with O’Donoghue causing Hearts all sorts of problems by passing and dribbling from midfield along with Apollonia Margetson who burst through from midfield only to have a fine shot pushed agonisingly past the post to rob her of the goal she deserved.
Brent coach Chris Ampofo complimented both teams on their performances: “Both teams worked their socks off today. Brent were superb in the first half and did very well to keep a spirited Hearts at bay in the second half“. Brent next face Ruislip Rangers at home at Capital City Academy. Brent controversially lost the last game between the sides after missing a penalty and conceding in the last second of the match so it should be a competitive match.
