St Robert Southwell 1-0 Wykeham Primary
St Robert Southwell won a trophy for the first time in 12 years by edging a thrilling encounter against Wykeham Primary School.
The only goal of the game was scored by Daniel Adu-Adjei with 8 minutes remaining. The Final was played in a good spirit and was an example of how schools’ football should be played.
The match with St Rob's on the front foot trying to get an early goal, but some dogged defending and good saves from the Wykeham goalkeeper kept the scoresheet blank.
Oliver went on a good run for St Rob’s, only to see his shot smash the crossbar with the rebound being scrambled away.
The second continued in a similar fashion, with St Rob's pushing for the opening goal. Wykeham soaked up the pressure and it looked like extra time was looming.
The St Rob's goal was guarded by the impressive James Cawley who had made some good saves and had to deal with some dangerous corners.
With time ticking away, St Rob's broke down the left wing with Jakub passing to Daniel who fired past the Wykeham goalkeeper.
Wykeham pressed forward for the equaliser and were hit by a counter attack which could have made the score 2-0 but for yet another fine save from the Wykeham goalkeeper.
