Teams and players from Brent enjoyed a fantastic day on Saturday 27th February, with success at both District and County Level.
The borough’s Under-13 Boys’ team kept themselves in the running for the title in the Middlesex Schools’ FA’s Compton Cup competition with a 4-3 win over Camden & Islington. This match was significantly closer than the first meeting between the sides, with Brent needing a late winner to move to the top of the League table.
What is known that, if Brent can win their final two matches, they will win the Compton Cup, just as last season’s Under-13 side did. Both are away from home, with the decisive fixture at Barnet taking place on 12th March.
Also challenging for honours are the Under-11 Girls’, who were 4-2 winners over Sutton in Group 1 of the London Girls’ Inter-District League. Sutton had beaten Brent in one of their two scheduled meetings in the Surrey Inter-District Girls’ League – the other being awarded to Brent after Sutton had clinched the title – and were completing their fixtures in the group stage of the regional competition.
In an outstanding performance, the Brent Girls shocked their visitors, inflicting upon them their first defeat in the London League, which gives Brent a real opportunity to qualify for the knockout phase of the tournament.
Also in action were the Under-12 Girls’, who fought hard against Charlton Athletic White in the Capital Girls’ League but eventually suffered a 3-0 defeat. This squad are playing their first season in a 9v9 format, against well-established club sides, so have found the standard challenging but have never let their heads drop.
At County level, eight boys from Brent represented Middlesex Schools Under-15 in their 6-1 win away to Inner London. That emphatic victory means that if Middlesex beat Sussex on Saturday, they will win their group and secure a home semi-final tie. The full match report is on the MSFA Website.
Four Brent players were in the Middlesex Schools Under-16 squad which defeated Inner London 2-1 as part of the same set of fixtures. The full match report is on the MSFA Website.
