Brent 5-8 Blackheath
London SFA Sun Shield
Saturday 23rd January 2016
Brent went out of the London Cup to a well organised Blackheath side, eventually losing 8-5. Brent were guilty of defensive lapses for several of the Blackheath goals and with better passing in the final third and more clinical finishing the outcome could have been very different.
Blackheath attacked Brent from the kick-off, forcing two early corners before seeing a shot go inches wide. Brent then conceded four goals in a crazy six minute period with Blackheath’s Daniel Lumu netting a hat-trick and Frankie Walkie scoring the other.
On 20 minutes, Brent’s Felix Amoah had an effort on goal well saved and Shammar Swaby saw his effort go wide before Drilon Krasniqi pulled a goal back for Brent in the 22nd minute smashing the ball home from inside the Blackheath 6-yard box.
Dominic D’Souza then saw his shot go wide for Brent before Blackheath scored twice in quick succession just before half time with Daniel Lumu scoring his fourth and fifth goals of the game.
Despite being 6-1 behind at half time, Brent rallied and their spirited second half display was rewarded with four goals. Amoah and Krasniqi both did well closing down the Blackheath defenders and winning the ball back for Krasniqi to score his second goal a minute into the second half.
Brent’s hopes of a dramatic comeback were thwarted when Blackheath’s Neil Spencer restored their five goal cushion just 5 minutes later to make it 7 -2. Brent continued to push forward and Swaby made it 7- 3, scoring in the 50th minute with a well placed shot when the ball was cleared from a Mason Spencer free kick.
With nine minutes remaining, Brent pulled another goal back when Amoah was quickest to a Swaby through ball and scored past the on-rushing Blackheath goalkeeper to make it 7-4.
Blackheath’s excellent Lumu scored his sixth goal of the game by chipping Aamar Malik in the Brent goal on 64 minutes before Amoah scored his second goal of the game to make the final score 8-5.
