Brent Under-12 Girls kicked off their season in the Regents Park Youth League with an impressive 9-2 victory over a spirited St. John’s Wood team.
Brent striker Hannah was making her debut and she impressed straight from the kick off. She showed a knack for finding space on the pitch in tight situations and scored a well-deserved first half hat-trick with some wonderful finishing. Only some great saves from the opposition goalkeeper prevented Hannah from adding to her tally and she was given the Player of the Match award for her efforts. The choice was a close run thing as Alice, Lauren and Ruby were equally impressive on their own debuts, each providing assists and working unselfishly for the team throughout the match.
The dynamic midfield duo of Charlotte amd Nancy also managed to grab themselves a hat-trick each in what was a great team performance.
Freda continually fed through balls as Brent put on a good passing display and showed clinical finishing.
Despite the emphatic scoreline, this was a keenly contested fixture with the Brent defensive due of Myla and Sienna constantly being called upon. When the Brent defence was breached, Olivia in goal pulled off a string of saves, the pick of the bunch being an acrobatic fingertip save, diving to push the ball over the bar after a thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the box which without Olivia’s intervention was heading into the top corner.
Brent coach Ramesh Varsani said after the match: “I’m really pleased for the girls as their hard work in training was put to good use. They really worked well as a team helping each other”
