U13 Girls hit the top of the table – Brent Schools’ Football Association

U13 Girls hit the top of the table

Brent U13 Girls 4-0 Regents Park

Brent Schools’ FA’s Under-13 Girls took on Regents Park in a top-of-the-table Regents Park Youth League fixture. Both teams went into the match unbeaten, with Regents Park leading the table and Brent in second place.

The game started briskly with both teams having half-chances before Brent made the breakthrough after nine minutes. A perfect through ball from Willow Corbett in the Brent midfield released Zoey De Sousa Mantas (DSM) who with work still to do ran through the Regents Park defence and unleashed a powerful shot which the goalkeeper was unable to prevent from hitting the net.

Brent doubled their lead just two minutes later when swift movement between Eabha Kennedy and Celia Marmion led to a ball crossing into the box and neatly tucked away by DSM for her second goal.

Brent continued to pile on the pressure with the Regents Park ‘keeper saving from Kennedy and Scrutton in quick succession. The traffic was not all one way and Maria Gooding in the Brent goal made a couple of very good saves to maintain Brent’s two goal lead. Kennedy, who was dictating play in midfield, was at the centre of another Brent attack passing confidently to Zoey Scrutton who unselfishly squared the ball into the Regents Park box for DSM to tap in and complete her hat-trick and ensure Brent ended the first half 3-0 ahead.

The second half saw Regents Park determined to get back into the match and show some of the form which had taken them to the top of the table. Regents Park played well but the steadfast defense of Tallulah (Bumpty) Swaby, Tashelle Redhead and captain Scarlett Hunn repelled their attacks and Brent were able to compose themselves and bring the game under control.

At the other end, Brent forced several corners all of which were unsuccessful until eventually Kennedy found her length and placed a ball into the centre of the Regents Park box which fell kindly for DSM to score again for her and Brent’s fourth goal.

Both teams continued to create chances with Evie Roe, Corbett and Scrutton going close and Regents again forcing saves from Brent. With time running out, Regents Park stormed forward but the Brent midfield of Issy Sirkett and Finlay Cottle remained resolute and Brent saw out the game, winning 4-0 to jump to top of the league.
