U14 Girls make winning start

Brent Schools’ FA 4 Brent Cross FA 0

The Brent Schools FA U13 Girls ended the 2021-22 season as Regents Park Youth League Champions and began the 2022-23 U13/U14 season in emphatic fashion, comprehensively defeating their north London rivals Brent Cross.

The Brent Schools’ FA girls put their opponents under overwhelming pressure during the first ten minutes. Brent Cross were camped deep inside their own half and rapidly conceded three corners which Brent Schools were unable to convert.

In the eleventh minute, Brent Schools’ pressure paid off, with a well taken corner by Eabha Kennedy powerfully headed home by Zoey De Souza Mantas.

Three minutes later, forward Evie Roe intercepted the goalkeeper’s clearance and unselfishly squared the ball to Kennedy to sweep into the net.

Kennedy was soon again on the scoresheet after a thumping shot by Tashelle Redhead was parried by the keeper into the path of De Souza Mantas, who laid the ball off to Kennedy who swiftly converted. At half time, the score was 3-0 to Brent Schools.

The second half began in much the same way as the first period had. Brent Schools applied pressure and had lots of shots on goal but weren’t quite on target.

Sensing an opportunity, Brent Cross pushed forward seeking a goal to reduce the deficit but were caught on the counter-attack. A quickly taken long clearance by Brent Schools’ keeper Hannah Derks fell nicely for Kennedy who outpaced the defender and played a pin-point pass for De Souza Mantas to claim her second goal.

The Brent Cross ‘keeper bravely made some outstanding saves to keep the score down. A sterner test awaits Brent Schools in their next match versus arch rivals Camden.
