Brent 4-5 Haringey
London Schools’ FA, Crisp Shield, 26th November 2016
Brent went out of the London Schools’ FA’s Crisp Shield at the first hurdle, throwing away a three goal lead to allow Haringey to complete their victory in dramatic style.
The Brent boys took the game to Haringey straight from the kick off. The visiting defence buckled under the intense pressure after 5 minutes and the in form Shea Thompson gave Brent the lead. Brent seemed to be full of confidence and Shea scored his second from the penalty spot after good build up play drew a foul.
Shea completed his hat trick by heading home a Riordan corner after 20 minutes. Brent had further chances to increase their lead but were dealt a blow as the visitors grabbed a goal back 2 minutes before half time.
The second half started with Brent pushing forward but the hosts got caught by a counter attack from Haringey which resulted in a penalty for the visitors, which they scored.
The game was now becoming really stretched with both teams attacking relentlessly. Brent scored their fourth goal with Shea Thompson again on the scoresheet for the fourth time.
Brent continued to play pushing forward and had a penalty appeal turned down when Shea burst through on goal and appeared to be taken down. Within minutes, the referee did award a penalty – the third of the game – to Haringey. The visitors scored to make the scoreline 4-3.
Haringey pressed for the equaliser and with 10 minutes to go made the score 4-4 and the visitors’ momentum helped them to complete their comeback, scoring a decisive fifth goal just two minutes after levelling the score.
Brent manager Mr Pascoe commented afterwards: “This was a fantastic cup match played in a good spirit. Well done to both teams.”
