Sutton 0-3 Brent
Surrey Schools’ FA, U11 Girls League, 3rd December 2016
Brent’s Under-11 Girls continued their domination of this season’s Surrey League with a deserved win away to Sutton Girls. Brent went into the match knowing that two wins would secure the Championship regardless of other results. Brent started the game confidentially, controlling the game and testing the superb Sutton ‘keeper with a number of early shots.
It seemed as though the score would be level going into half time, but a superb flick over the defence by Nicole Njoku left Shakira Kafero-Roberts free to race through and score at the second attempt two minutes before half time.
Sutton began the second half brightly and arguably had the best chance of the game just five minutes after the resumption, but Brent captain Lauren Thompson rushed out of her goal to smother the ball at the feet of the Sutton striker, bravely winning the one on one.
Brent responded well to Sutton’s efforts, hitting back when Njoku scored the goal of the game as she sublimely lobbed the ball over the onrushing ‘keeper from the edge of the box to double Brent’s lead.
Now back in their rhythm, Brent began frequently testing the Sutton ‘keeper once more. Another chance fell to Kafero-Roberts, after Njoku’s shot was parried, and she put the ball in the net to make it 3-0. Just before the end of the game, Sutton were awarded a penalty, but it the shot went wide meaning Brent held on to their clean sheet.
Brent will complete their Surrey League season next week at home to Croydon.
Coaches Joe Khalfi and Minesh Randeria remarked after the game, “This was a very mature performance by the girls. There was a lot of pressure with the league being in their hands but the played amazingly and hopefully they can lift the trophy next week!”
