Brent SFA 1-0 St Joseph’s ’88 Youth
Capital Girls’ League Division One, 26th November 2016
Brent’s Under-13 Girls’ squad returned to Capital Girls’ League action against local club St Joseph’s Youth ’88, who had knocked Brent out of the League Cup on penalties a month earlier.
Brent started the game well, dominating possession and carving out some excellent chances but they just couldn’t find a way past the St Joseph’s ‘keeper. In defence, Brent captain Jessica Kwayie (pictured, above) was winning every ball and setting up countless counter attacks.
With half an hour played, Kwayie once again dispossessed the St Joseph’s striker and played a lovely ball down the left flank for Jada Pollendine, who was able to win a corner. After a fantastic cross from Noelani Agyeman, the ball fell perfectly at the feet of Tyanna Tulloch who stabbed the ball home to give Brent the lead at half time.
In the second half, St Joseph’s were able to get into the game a bit more but were unable to properly test Chloe Angell in goal thanks to the tireless efforts of Brent’s defence and midfielders. Brent had a number of chances to kill the game, especially through the efforts of Jasmine Warrington-Mainoo, who gave the St Joseph’s left back a torrid time, but the visiting ‘keeper remained resilient and prevented further scoring, although Brent were able to secure a crucial win.
Coaches Ronan O’Rourke and Joseph Khalfi observed after the game: “We were really impressed that the girls didn’t get worried or frustrated when we missed a few good chances. They held their nerve and deservedly earned their first clean sheet of the season.”
Player of the Match: Jessica Kwayie.
