Brent U11 Girls 3-2 Dragons Blues
This hotly contested game at Regents Park erupted straight from the kick-off.
The opening minutes saw Brent put under pressure but managing to keep Dragons at bay with some last ditch defending. However, Brent grew into the game and produced a great display of attacking football which almost paid dividends when Evie Pillar reacted quickest to a long throw from Myla Villegas Lewis but her fierce cross shot hit the side netting.
Brent’s pressure eventually paid off as Charlotte Fraser broke though the Dragons defence and fired into the net to make it 1-0.
Dragons responded well and – against the run of play – scored from a quickly taken corner to equalise.
Brent defended well, absorbing attacking pressure from the Dragons before a rapid Brent counter-attack was finished with a real poacher’s goal from Edi Morgan to make put Brent back in front.
Brent kept up the pressure and moments later Fraser unleashed a great shot, but it was cleared off the line on the stroke of half time.
The second half started with the Dragons having their best spell in the game and applying constant pressure, but the Brent defensive partnership of Sienna Varsani and Myla Villegas Lewis put in some great tackles. When Dragons did break through, Brent goalkeeper Lois Ampofo pulled off two magnificent saves. Eventually the Dragons were made their dominance count and they managed to draw level at 2-2.
The remainder of the second half was end-to-end action with chances for both sides and with only seconds left on the clock Brent won a corner. The set piece landed at the feet of Marni Keam-George at the edge of the box. She laid the ball off to Fraser who sent a thunderbolt though a crowded penalty area and into the bottom corner beating the outstretched hand of the keeper to make it 3-2 to Brent and seal the victory.
Brent coach Justin Morgan commented: “I was so impressed with the desire the team showed. The girls battled all the way and showed great team spirit.”
