Brent U11 Girls 5-2 Regents Park
The Brent Under-11 girls team started their campaign with an impressive team performance against Regents Park at the iconic Regents Park in Central London.
On a glorious late summer morning in the shadow of the BT Tower, Brent showed that they are ready to build on the solid foundation built last season.
The early stages of the match were evenly contested until Charlotte Fraser received the ball from Evie Piller, dribbled into the box and smashed the ball into the net to give Brent the lead.
Regents Park responded and equalised straight from the restart 1-1. Piller was a constant threat in attack and an end-to-end contest developed as both teams pushed for the all-important next goal. Edie Morgan battled well in midfield alongside Fraser and Deena El-Hashimi as the game heated up.
Regents Park broke forward and courageous defending from Romy Lawson and Mylas Villegas Lewis stopped the attack.
Lewis then passed to Fraser who slipped the ball to Deena El-Hashimi who scored with a thunderbolt into the roof of the net.
Regents Park broke again and Brent goalkeeper Lois Ampofo dived to her left to make a smart save.
Fraser then scored her second goal, collecting a pass from Eva Armit before dribbling into the box and shooting into the net to extend Brent’s lead to 3-1.
Brent were now in control and rotated the squad, introducing some fresh legs. Georgia Margetson made an impact causing Regents Park problems by driving forward down the left, combining with Marni Keam-George upfront while Siena Varsani, also making her debut, impressed in defense. Regents Park reduced the defecit, scoring on the counter-attack to make it 3-2. Brent right-back Bibiana Thomas then produced the pass of the game, splitting the Regents Park defense with an inch perfect ball to Margetson who sprinted through, controlling the ball well before despactching a shot that the Regents Park keeper saved with aplomb.
Brent restored their two goal advantage from a corner. Edie Morgan passed short to Fraser whose quickly passed to El-Hashimi who released an unstoppable shot into the net. Regents Park bravely continued to battle to get back into the game and Lois Ampofo, who was now at full back, defended well to stop a promising break. Fittingly, Charlotte Fraser completed the scoring and a fine debut hat-trick. She collected the ball on the left wing before cutting inside and dribbling into the box. Fraser fired a thunderbolt into the top corner to make it 5-2.
Brent coach Andrew Pillar congratulated his team: “What a tremendous start to the seasonand fantastic result against last year’s champions. I was delighted that we were able to play our entire team and that everyone contributed to the team’s success. Though a special mention has to go out to Charlotte who scored three goals on her debut and absolutely dominated the centre of midfield!”
