Crooks and Wright inspire Brent youngsters

Garth Crookes and Ian Wright at Capital City Academy

Former Tottenham Hotspur star Garth Crooks and Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright attended a special lunch to celebrate sport at Capital City Academy. The school, which is emerging as a major hub for football in Brent, hosting school games, Brent Schools’ FA matches and even U15 girls England trials in recent years, invited Wright to give a talk. He shared challenges he had faced in his journey to the top, giving examples of how Arsène Wenger had helped but also remembering how the support of his teachers at school had made a positive impact on him. 

 

He enthusiastically encouraged the students to work hard and use their time to reach their goals and not be put off by challenges that they may face and spoke about the need for self belief and to be yourself and true to your values. Crooks, who is also a governor at the school, chaired a Q&A with students and after this, Wright mingled with them answering more questions and taking photos. The school head teacher tweeted

Brent Schools’ FA Chair Chris Ampofo who was also a guest at the event commented: “It was a real honour to attend and hear Wrighty speak. The staff here do an amazing job and it was great to hear him pay tribute to teachers that had helped him.”
